Research Activities

Incoras is actively involved in a number of research activities aligned with our mission to develop and deploy model driven design technologies and component based software methodologies for the development and optimization of embedded applications on next generation mobile devices.

OpenMediaPlatform

OpenMediaPlatform logoFP7

OpenMediaPlatform (OMP) is a European Framework7 project which aims to define an open and extensible client-side service & software architecture for media-rich end-user devices, such as mobile phones or mobile media players, that will address software productivity and optimal service delivery challenges. The OMP project brings together Europe’s leading researchers, industrial partners and emerging SMEs within the semiconductor industry.

The overall objective of the OMP project is developing technologies to dynamically compose media-rich services that scale with device and network capabilities. This includes the development and definition of :

  1. Tool Infrastructure: An extensible computing tool infrastructure consisting of static and dynamic composition tools and methodologies
  2. Media Infrastructure: A novel media infrastructure consisting of enhanced OpenMAX  APIs to support resource and context awareness
  3. Reference Platforms: Prototypes of a standards-based run-time environment and methodologies

The Open Media Platform Project is funded under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technology Development (FP7) of the European Union and contributes to the objective : ICT-2007.1.2 Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering.

The project runs for 24 months from January 1st, 2008.

OpenMediaPlatform Consortium

The OpenMediaPlatform (OMP) consortium has a unique mix of experts in advanced compilation toolchains, component based programming and efficient runtime engines with experts in the multimedia domain. The consortium comprises silicon manufacturers, independent software vendors, and academia:

NoTA

NoTA logo

NoTA (Network On Terminal Architecture) is positioned to revolutionize the development of mobile and embedded system device platforms. NoTA is Nokia originated interconnect centric modular service oriented architecture for mobile device platforms. It aims at solving the gaps between current product platforms and future requirements, providing superior performance and eased integration. The key technical solutions exist today and major silicon vendors and OEMs are already developing solutions that are based on NoTA.

In 2008 Incoras successfully demonstrated MediaDesigner running with a Nokia implementation of Bellagio OpenMAX IL running on a NoTA architcture. Look out for further news at NoTA world 2009.

Other activities

Incoras is actively working with a number of leading European silicon vendors and researchers in the definition of software tools and methodologies for next generation Multi-core and Many core platforms for high-end mobile applications. This includes smart tools for mapping applications to arrays of processors and automating test through the use of search-based test methodologies.
